RIVER’S BEND DESIGN is a full-service, design/build/maintenance landscaping company located in North Central Vermont since 2000. Very simply, our mission is to provide a high quality product that is unique to each client. This quality is achieved through the use of horticultural & ecological practices that are based on the primary organic land care principle, “Do no harm”. River’s Bend Design sees itself as an active and responsible member of the local community as well as in the region of the Northeast.
DESIGN & CONSULTATION
River’s Bend began operation in the year 2000 with the mission of assisting homeowners to find the vision for their landscape rather than offering a cookie-cutter design approach . We will work with you to design a plantscape for that new patio or a solution for the corner of the back yard that never dries out. We will help you brainstorm a fresh renovation for the front entrance or how to continue vegetable gardening without bending over.
NATURAL TURF CARE
Since 2002 River’s Bend has offered organic landscaping. We feel that homeowners deserve to have the option of an attractive, sustainable lawn without the real dangers posed by synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Recent state laws limit the use of phosphorus because of ongoing pollution of our lakes and streams. We determine your soil’s needs through independent lab testing and then feed the soil by following the recommendations given in these custom reports as well as keeping within the state & federal laws that protect our environment. Soil testing services are included.
FRUIT TREE PRUNING
We start as early as the last week in February and continue until the buds break in April.
SPRING YARD CLEANUP
As soon as the snow has gone and the ground has thawed, we will pick up branches & debris, rake and do lawn over-seeding for thinning or bare spots.
SPRING GARDEN CLEANUP
We will edge, weed, fertilize per soil test, prune as needed and mulch. At that time, we also assess soil and plant health and make recommendations (such as soil amendments or perennial division).
Summer annuals/bulbs in garden beds for bloom thru the season Decorative Containers of annuals, herbs, vegetables
We offer a flexible schedule balanced between how often maintenance seems warranted for your landscape and what is affordable: weekly, bi-weekly, monthly.
Choose the level of assistance you need from us to get the vegetable harvest you need. We have greenhouse facilities. Each season from late March to early June, we grow-on specially requested varieties of vegetables and cut flowers for use in client gardens as well as our own gardens (display and try-out). We recommend our timber frame hemlock raised beds for low- maintenance, high-yield harvests.
FALL YARD CLEANUP
We will rake leaves to be composted on the property or removed.
FALL GARDEN CLEANUP
This cleanup can be detailed (complete cut-back) or not (leaving grasses/native annual/perennial seed-heads for viewing or wildlife). This is an important time to make sure that the garden is well-weeded. Again, we take this time to assess soil & plant health.
WINTER PLANT PROTECTION
Snow covers, deer protection (burlap), anti-desiccation treatment to prevent moisture loss from plants that keep their leaves during the winter…
INTEGRATED COMPOSTING SYSTEM
We offer a consultation that will help you determine your composting goals and then assist you to integrate your preferences, tolerances, lifestyle and home space/yard space as well as your budget into a workable system.
We can help homeowners prepare their landscape for the real estate market. We work with the home or business owner one-on-one to provide curb appeal. It’s a Feng Shui approach for your landscape to get potential buyers to walk over your threshold. We “see” your landscape through different eyes. We are able to recommend usually very simple changes or additions that will add color, warmth and give an overall well-cared for appearance… adding value for minimal investment.
